While working the Ice Cream/ Beverage Station at my dining hall, I have had the pleasure of coming across a number of fascinating and often eccentric students. And if there is anything that I have learned from the Ice Cream Station, it is that students cannot function without it.
Unfortunately during my shift yesterday I was left without a student worker to scoop the ice cream for the customers. This left the students with the very rare opportunity to scoop their own ice cream. To say they made an absolute disaster of a mess would be an understatement. But I more or less expected this. What truly surprised me was the reaction of one male student who when faced with the chance of not receiving his daily supply of sugar-deliciousness, turned to threats and anger driven words.
I closed the station at 8:00PM and informed each person who approached the station hereafter that we were closed for the night. Most students accepted this and walked away. However, when I informed one boy and his girlfriend that I could no longer serve ice cream after 8:00, he looked at me dead in the face and said "I hope you fall down a flight of stairs."
Really??? For ice cream? You wish me death or at the very least a severe and life altering injury because I would not serve you ice cream?
I then told the student that I am an RA and he better watch what he says next time. His clever response was then "I fell down a flight of stairs." Really??? That is your quick recovery?
How badly could one want ice cream? You had all day to come and eat it and yet waited until after 8:00PM, which by now you should know, we close, to request some!!! Wishing bodily harm to someone who denies you ice cream is a definite sign of anger management issues and most likely a future case of Diabetes.
